In the heart of the Salt Lake Valley are thousands of young men and young women who recently committed their time to making a difference in the lives of those affected by congenital heart disease.

Both Brighton High and Jordan High School students devoted two months to raising money and awareness for The Paul Cardall Family Foundation. Whether it was buying a faculty parking spot, heart cookies made by other students, or joining a "Call of Duty" video game tournament, students turned out in droves to help do what they can.

Needless, to say I was impressed and overwhelmed by their efforts. Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future." It's quite obvious, the youth in my community are already leading by example.

Every single penny generously donated has the power to directly affect the lives of families associated with congenital heart disease. Our foundation, which my wife Lynnette and I started after I received a heart transplant and an overwhelming embrace of community support, has no paid employees and is devoted to provide education, fund research, and assist fellow organizations and individuals associated with congenital heart disease and other related congenital disorders. Funds acquired go directly to the following:

1. Scholarships

2. Public and private awareness and general education to help bring greater attention to congenital heart disease patients in an effort to prevent premature death, prolong the health and well-being of congenital patients.

3. Seed money for Federal grants associated with selective research projects making a difference in the lives of patients.

4. Financial aid to organized support groups dedicated to strengthening the emotional, mental, and spiritual lives of patients and families.

Again, our foundation greatly appreciates your support and all of the support students worked so hard to make a difference.

It's national heart month and with only 6 days to go before the big Celebrate Life concert and benefit auction in Salt Lake City at Cottonwood High on Valentines Day, I'm excited to share with you a partial list of some of the donated auction items that will help support families and organizations associated with Congenital Heart Disease.

Tickets can be purchased through Smithstix.com and will also be available the night of the show at Cottonwood High School the night of the show at face value.

Events begin at 6:30 pm with the silent auction.

The Heart "Beet" of Jordan High 2011

This morning Jordan High Student leaders inspired their fellow 'Beetdiggers', to help gather pennies, dimes, dollars, and what-ever else they could mustard in an effort to raise money to help families and organizations associated with the #1 birth defect. Because of this, students selected the Paul Cardall Family Foundation for Congenital Disorders as their 2011 charity.

One of the school's rival Brighton High recently contributed $15,000 and challenged their neighbor Jordan High to try and "Beet" their hard work.

Needless to say, whether it's auctioning off a faculty parking spot right next to the school entrance or having a "Call of Duty Tournament" youth are excited to serve those in their community and have creative ways to gather funds. Students are buying t-shirts that proudly declare, "The Heart 'Beet' of Jordan 2011"

Student Leaders from both Brighton and Jordan High will represent their student body on February 14th at the 2nd Annual Celebrate Life Concert where they will be honored by Paul Cardall.

A silent auction will precede the the Concert. Students and their families associated with raising funds can purchase concert tickets for 50% off at the Jordan and Brighton High Main Offices.

This evening, during an intense Brighton vs. Jordan High basketball game, Brighton student leaders presented the foundation with a generous check and challenged Jordan students to do the same.

On behalf of the Paul Cardall Family Foundation, a non-profit devoted to helping families and organizations associated with Congenital Heart Disease, I want to THANK the students of Brighton High School for the time they devoted to raising awareness and money toward Congenital Heart Disease.

The Heart of Jordan High

The Paul Cardall Family Foundation is excited to welcome the support of the energetic students at Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah.

Beginning January 2011 students will organize stomps, halo tournaments, grade competitions, and much more in an effort to help the Foundation improve the lives of families and organizations associated with Congenital Heart Disease.

Some interesting facts about these young men and women:
Jordan High students have consistently scored above average on the ACT with a school composite of 21.3 compared to a national composite score of 21.2 for the 2006-2007 academic year. Beetdiggers also have a higher pass rate for the Advanced Placement exams passing 69.0% of exams administered for the 2006-2007 academic year. Jordan has produced several National Merit Scholar award recipients, finalists and semifinalists as well as Utah State Sterling Scholar finalists.

Utah High School Raising Money for Foundation

(SLC, UT) Brighton High School has selected the Paul Cardall Family Foundation for Congenital Disorders as their charity for 2010-2011 school year. Students will raise money for the charity under the direction of their student government.

This morning student leaders talked about our organization and what their plans are to raise funds. During the 2 part assembly an auction was held and thousands of dollars were committed by students; i.e. purchase a full year of parking in the faculty parking lot, and many more great ideas.

On Valentines Day, Feb. 14, 2011 at the 2nd Annual Celebrate Life Concert and Silent Auction, Brighton student leaders will present the final check to the foundation. GO BRIGHTON!!!

Other school also involved in this program is Jordan High. We are grateful for these 2 schools and their devotion to making a difference!

Our foundation has no paid employees. Every penny goes to improve the lives of families affected by congenital heart disease. Last year we helped various families by providing financial support. This year funds will go toward research, education, and dispersed among other organizations who have a specific need or call to action that makes a major difference in the lives of these folks.

The Paul Cardall Family Foundation for Congenital Defects has begun a wonderful program to help families affected by Congenital Heart Disease.

CARS FOR HEARTS is a non profit organization in which ALL proceeds from the sale of a car go to assist families affected by congenital disorders.

Cars for Hearts is a partnership between The Paul Cardall Foundation, KSLCars.com & McNeil's Auto Body.
